Our Services
Subtitles and captions are popular methods of providing translations of audio in videos and other multimedia content and are often the most cost effective solution.
Subtitles contain just the speech and so are the most common type to be translated. They assume that the audience can hear the audio, so are provided as an aid to comprehension, for example if the speaker is using another language or the sound is distorted.
Captions, on the other hand, include all meaningful audio in addition to the speech, so may include things like applause, laughter, sound effects, speaker labels, etc. They are intended to replace the audio entirely, whether the audio is manually removed or muted, or the viewer is deaf.
Discover MoreVoiceover is a popular choice for localising videos, as it provides a more immersive experience for the viewer compared to subtitles or captions, and makes the final product feel more bespoke. However, it is usually much more expensive to produce than subtitles/captions, since it requires the use of a recording studio with specialist equipment and staff.
Discover MoreTranscription can be completed in various ways, depending on the purpose for which it is needed.
Verbatim transcription includes every sound in the audio with no editing whatsoever. It includes all repetitions, stuttering and filler sounds/words. This is most popular in legal contexts, when an unfiltered account of exactly what was said is needed.
Intelligent verbatim transcription is still an exact record of what was said, but some minor edits and corrections are performed. This can involve removing things like coughing, filler words and laughter to improve clarity, but will not involve any stylistic changes or grammatical corrections. This is most popular for medical and corporate transcripts, where comprehension is the main objective.
Fully edited transcription is exactly as it sounds – fully edited. This means that, in addition to removing things like coughs and filler words, the transcript’s grammar and style are also corrected. Edited transcripts are most often used for journalistic interviews, or as the basis for other linguistic services such as subtitling or a translated voiceover script.
