What is Consecutive Interpreting?
A consecutive interpreter facilitates bilingual conversations by translating each participant’s speech after they pause. Each linguist typically works in both directions for this type of interpreting, so they usually work alone. This form of interpreting is more conversational than simultaneous interpreting, and interpreters can take a more active role in the interaction, often asking questions of both parties to ensure that they use the most appropriate translations and convey the intended message. This also allows the interpreter to build rapport with both parties and thereby pick up on and convey more subtle elements of their communication, such as body language, facial expressions, etc. We can provide consecutive interpreting either in-person, or remotely by video call or telephone.
